Lumos over black // Intergalactic Dust over black // Intergalactic Dust over white // Lumos over white
If you could look at my polish stash you’d definitely admit I’m a polishaholic. But today we’re not talking about me, but about Polish Alcoholic, owned by the lovely Sabrina, who creates unique, limited, and 5free polishes. I have tried two topcoats in particular that I’ll be reviewing today. What I love about topcoats is that they multiply the options you have. Got 4 polishes? Get yourself a special effect topcoat and make them 8!
Let’s start with Intergalactic Dust, a holo topcoat packed with a lot of Spectraflair to give your nails the most amazing holo rainbow ever. It is somewhere between linear and scattered and just one coat is more than enough to give you nail entertainment. It works better over dark shades (the darker, the better) and as you can see it’s almost invisible on white nails (under some lighting you do see a nice pastel rainbow though!). On daylight it looks like chrome particles are suspended on top of your nails. Swatches are one coat! I can’t wait to try this over every colour I own. I can see a rainbow mani coming my way.
Now, Lumos! So many memories from Harry Potter come back with this. It is a glow in the dark clear topcoat. I want to emphasize its lack of colour because, unfortunately, a lot of polishes marketed as clear glow in the dark end up being greenish. As you can see in the main picture, it does not alter the base colour, not even the white. It glows bright in the dark, with a bluey green. The lighter the base colour, the more it glows. You can see this in the pic above: the brighter nail is the white one vs the black one. Swatches are two coats.
As you can see, these topcoats are so much fun, and have a great lasting power even with no clear topcoat over them. I love Intergalactic Dust because it gives a lot of dimension to the nails, and Lumos because it can be really surprising at a party since it is invisible in daylight. Polish Alcoholic is definitely a creative place. Also, if you’re looking for christmassy polishes, do check the Holiday Collection 2013 because once polishes are gone, they are gone foever!
